Details: While many regions in Ethiopia have great reputations for special coffee, there is definitely a special place in our hearts for coffees from Agaro. Over the years of drinking some great coffees from this region, the Nano Challa mill has stood out for consistently producing some of our favorite washed Ethiopia coffees. Apparently, we were not alone in noticing that success, as Nano Challa became so popular that they built a second mill, dubbed Nano Genji. The people growing coffee in the area around these mills generally grow few enough coffee shrubs that they never get separated out by grower, but instead get separated usually by day lot- coffee cherries that arrive to the mill on a particular day are processed together and separated out into that specific lot. So the coffees produced by Nano Challa and Nano Genji are always superb, but can vary lot by lot.
This #10 Nano Genji lot from crop year 2020/2021 is a superbly clean and balanced coffee. It has a rich grape juiciness, a delightful syrupy body, and elegant florals balanced out by a honey-like sweetness. The coffee’s complexity doesn’t stop there, however, sometimes giving subtle savory hints of candied ginger in the finish. This coffee is roasted Medium-Light by the roasting team at Coffee Cycle, and is excellent as pour over, espresso, or iced coffee.
